Good nutrition is not always an easy thing to come by, even in an agricultural society. Poverty creates instability and both create conditions that many Rwandans are faced with every day. Some families are on the move constantly, trying to make enough money or raise crops to feed their families. Or lack of money simply means you only feed your familiy what you grow. Or, you grow something only to forced to leave it and move on.
We are developing plans to train the people of Cyanika how to plant their own portable, aka ‘urban’, gardens. This way they can grow their own vegetables and feed their own families. And their gardens can go with them even if they must move on. Thus providing nutrition even in the midst of instability or poverty.
